Art Direction + Design

Hello! I’m Amy Redmond, a passionate visual designer, typographer, educator, and letterpress printmaker with deep regional roots in book design and fine press publications. As an accomplished, dynamic Art Director I provide thoughtful design leadership and deliver high quality, content-driven creative solutions for print and digital channels. I’ve worked in advertising and marketing for a range of clients—small businesses, nonprofits, museums and large corporations.

I enjoy working with organizations that positively shape community well-being, and whose values I live: environmental stewardship, outdoor education, youth leadership development, health, and the visual/literary arts. Crafting finely-tuned concepts is just as important to me as working in my letterpress print studio and playing in the mountains.

I create smart, engaging solutions that leverage strategic thinking and intentional typography, and work gracefully under pressure with a positive attitude, guiding projects from the planning stage to on-time delivery. I have produced print, branding, and digital work for corporate and non-profit clients including Amazon Publishing, The Beechers Foundation, Chronicle Books, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, The Common Acre & YMCA.

I’m also a design educator, online and in-person. I teach typography at the School of Visual Concepts and letterpress printing for Partners in Print, where I also serve as a founding member on the Leadership Team designing and producing marketing and communication materials.

Print Work

I began my design career as a book designer, creating books for the juvenile and adult trade markets. A desire to learn more about fine typography led to a letterpress printing apprenticeship, and print has been a cornerstone of my design work ever since.

Branding

The research and creative process for developing a brand reveals a lot about a client’s culture and values, & I enjoy bringing it to life in their logo. Take a peek behind the design scenes for these Pacific Northwest natives:

Digital Work

Partnering with teams in digital marketing agencies has shaped my fluency in the unique challenges of art directing corporate brands, and keeps me in pursuit of the brilliance that emerges when strategy, UX, copywriting and design collaborate effectively.

Letterpress Printing

To keep my creativity fresh, I unplug and work in my letterpress studio, Amada Press, creating typographic prints composed with metal and wood type.

Engaging with others through printing is incredibly rewarding, and I do so through community art projects and teaching letterpress classes for Partners in Print, an arts organization born from the letterpress program at  Seattle’s School of Visual Concepts.
